Alex Zhu grew up in China, where he completed a degree in Engineering. He followed this up with a move to Australia where he gained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, and recently a master’s degree in Fire Engineering in New Zealand.
His PhD in fluid dynamics gave Alex a good understanding of performance-based fire design, as well as using various modelling tools. After graduating, he worked as an HVAC research engineer, modelling building ventilation and heat transfer, and as a consultant specialist in Beijing.
Alex says he was drawn to fire engineering as it is an essential element for architectural design to ensure the safety of residents. Working as a Fire Engineer and Business Development Manager for Origin Fire, Alex aims to continuously improve his theoretical knowledge and practical experience, using his innovative analysis and problem-solving abilities to complete more architectural design and inspection projects.
In his spare time, Alex loves the outdoors, walking, photography and singing. He is also a member of the New Zealand Chinese Building Industry Association.
“I hope that I can apply the knowledge of fire engineering that I have learned to practice and contribute to the development of the entire industry. My small power may be able to make other countries pay more attention to the profession of fire engineering.”
