Liming’s interest in fire engineering developed from a strong commitment to life safety. He established his technical foundation through degrees in fire protection and safety engineering in China, followed by further study in civil engineering in New Zealand. This combination has given him a well-rounded understanding of structural and civil engineering principles that complements his specialist knowledge of fire safety.
At Origin Fire, Liming specialises in passive fire protection. As an Intermediate Passive Fire Engineer, his work includes passive fire design and specification, site inspections, inspection reporting, and the preparation of practical design advice. He applies the performance requirements of the New Zealand Building Code to support robust, buildable solutions for both new construction and remediation projects.
Looking ahead, Liming aims to broaden his experience across fire engineering, including passive fire protection, active systems, and fire safety design. He is particularly interested in earlier design involvement, where collaboration with clients and consultants can help identify and resolve compliance issues early.
Outside work, Liming enjoys exploring New Zealand through hiking and travel, learning about different cultures through reading and meeting people from diverse backgrounds. He also enjoys staying active through badminton and bouldering.
“I enjoy collaborating with a highly supportive team to navigate diverse, challenging project scenarios and find compliant engineering paths, it keeps me curious and humble as I learn something new every day.“
