The Steptember Challenge – Origin Get Moving

As summer is just around the corner Origin Fire wanted to encourage staff to get fit and healthy. We decided to get on board to take 10,000 steps each day for 28 days through September. The challenge was called Steptember – Cerebral Palsy’s International Fundraiser.

Origin Fire September challenge 1We formed two teams with four people in each which gave us a little competitive fun. We called ourselves ‘Origin Speedsters’ and ‘The Walking Wonders’. Once all the pedometers arrived the walk and fun began.

Most days all team members would try different ways to get more steps in. Like parking the car a little further away, walking after work or during the weekends.

The competitive spirit started to kick in as each team tried to get higher on the leader board. Teasing and encouraging each other made the work environment more fun. If it was a sunny day a group of us would have a walk around the neighbourhood to get our steps up, enjoying the sun and socialising with each other. It was also such a good way to build team spirit.

The outcome at the end of the month was one distinct winner. ‘The Walking Wonders’ reached over one million steps while ‘Origin Speedsters’ were left in their dust! The Steptember Challenge was a great way to realise how we can incorporate more exercise in our working day plus raise money for a worthy cause.

Let the challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day continue!
