POP-UP GLOBE – intimate, up front and personal

February 28, 2016

view-project-buttonThis year is the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. Marking this anniversary, a full-scale temporary working replica of the second Globe Theatre has ‘popped up’ beside Aotea Square to provide some exceptional entertainment. A world-first, the Pop-up Globe fuses cutting-edge scaffold technology with 400-year-old design, and is delivering Shakespearean theatre as we know it once was, intimate, up front and personal.

Origin were recruited to the project as the fire and emergency lighting engineers. Michael James oversaw the project with Sajeesh Nair producing the fire engineering design and Clive Revie completing the emergency lighting design.

A fast track project from design to completion, Michael says there was a great deal of collaboration among all players to achieve the quick design stage. “Camelspace was the main contractor and they provided excellent full-scale mockups of sections of the building. This gave us the opportunity to really troubleshoot design and construction issues right from the start.”

Do make the most of this unique, very special opportunity to see eight of Shakespeare’s best-loved works in The Anthony Harper 2016 Auckland Season.
